Kirk & Granite · London + New York

Executive producing for theatre.

A show needs a clear route from the creative proposal to the stage. Kirk & Granite works with producers on the scale, partners, venue and financial plan, then stays involved as the production takes shape.

Discuss your production

Establishing what the show needs.

Executive producing begins with the decisions that shape a production. What stage is the material at? What is the next useful step? Who needs to be involved, and what does the proposed route mean financially?

We work with you to connect the creative ambition with a practical plan. The brief may begin with development, an industry presentation or a first run, or focus on a production preparing for another market.

James Steel is based in London and Bryan McCaffrey in New York. You work directly with us, with responsibilities and the scope of our involvement agreed at the outset.

From planning to delivery.

Production strategy

Work through the proposed scale, development route, venue options and timetable. Establish which decisions need to be made next and how they depend on one another.

Financial planning

Bring the production budget, running costs and cashflow into the conversation early. Assess the implications of changes to the plan before commitments are made.

Partners and agreements

Help bring the producing and creative relationships together, clarify responsibilities and negotiate the agreements needed for the production to move forward.

Keeping the project connected

Maintain an overview as planning becomes rehearsals and a run. Work with the producer and delivery team so that creative, financial and operational decisions remain connected.

Executive producing and general management.

Executive producing focuses on how the production is shaped and delivered on the producer’s behalf. General management covers the detailed financial, contractual and administrative work that supports it.

The two roles can sit together or be commissioned separately. We agree the division of responsibility with you and the team already in place, rather than assuming every production needs the same arrangement.

Experience behind the conversation.

James’s credits include executive producing and general management on Fly More Than You Fall at Southwark Playhouse Elephant. Bryan’s producing work includes Beau and When Playwrights Kill.

Our selected credits distinguish producing, co-producing, general management and investment roles, including work through our founders’ separate companies.

To start, send us the outline of the production, its development history, any attached team and what you want to achieve next. We can then work through the brief and agree the scope and fee.

What is the next step for your show?

Tell us where you are and what you need to move forward.
